Youth empowerment workshops (युवा सशक्तिकरण कार्यशाला)

Team Saathi (National Alliance of People's Movements),

One of the steps that Team Saathi has been taking is to develop the leadership skills and self-esteem of the youth. The aim is to empower them to voice their opinions and take part in the decision-making. Some of the workshops conducted were –

  1. Discussion on forest land, Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) and why was Khori Gaon demolished. This was conducted by Manju Menon and Kanchi Kohli, Environmental Policy researchers.
  2. Workshop on ‘right to information’ (RTI) and how to write letters to the government. This was conducted by Amrita Johri, National Campaign for People’s Right to Information.
  3. Workshop on video making and discussion on working with marginalised communities and those facing gender-based violence. This was conducted by Debjani Mukherjee, Filmmaker, Author, Illustrator and Educator.

देबजानी मुखर्जी एक स्वतंत्र एनीमेशन फिल्म निर्माता, लेखक, चित्रकार, शोधकर्ता और शिक्षक हैं। उनकी पीएचडी थीसिस स्वदेशी कला शिक्षाशास्त्र पर थी जहां उन्होंने भील समुदाय का अध्ययन किया और प्रसिद्ध भील कलाकार भूरी बाई के साथ मिलकर काम किया। उसने भील कला भी उससे सीखी।

We are a group of activists and academics working in the field of environment, housing and informality who came together to join Khori Gaon residents in their long fight for justice. This collaboration we have undertaken with the residents is called Saathi which means comrade in Hindi.
