We are a group of activists and academics working in the field of environment, housing and informality who came together to join Khori Gaon residents in their long fight for justice. This collaboration we have undertaken with the residents is called Saathi, which means comrade in Hindi. We call our group ‘Team Saathi’. Our sole aim is that every resident of Khori Gaon receives adequate rehabilitation and due compensation. This journey we have embarked on with the residents also involves rebuilding their lives and empowering them. Many other activists, academics, lawyers, and civil society members have joined us from time to time.
We are aware that no court or government can compensate for the years of injustice, pain and suffering of the residents and the humiliation they had to undergo during the eviction and the violation of their human rights. However, these narratives should not remain buried under the rubble of their broken homes.
This blog is our attempt to share the story of Khori Gaon with the world to raise awareness and prevent forced evictions of the vulnerable in the name of forest conservation. This platform also acts as a repository to document and disseminate information with the hope that other communities going through similar injustices might learn something from Khori Gaon’s struggle.
हम पर्यावरण और आवास के क्षेत्र में काम करने वाले कार्यकर्ताओं और शिक्षाविदों का एक समूह हैं जो न्याय के लिए लंबी लड़ाई में खोरी गांव के निवासियों से जुड़ते हुए एक साथ आए। हमने निवासियों के सहयोग से जो समूह बनाया है उसे टीम साथी का नाम दिया है। हमारा एकमात्र उद्देश्य यह है कि खोरी गांव के प्रत्येक निवासी को पर्याप्त पुनर्वास और उचित मुआवजा मिले। खोरी गांव में लोगों के साथ काम एक समाज के उजड़ने बिखरने के बाद उसे संभालने की यात्रा है। जिसमे समय-समय पर समाजकर्मी, पर्यावण कार्यकर्ता, शिक्षाविद, वकील और नागरिक समाज के सदस्य हमारे साथ जुड़ते जा रहे हैं।
हम जानते हैं कि कोई भी अदालत या सरकार निवासियों के साथ हुए वर्षों के अन्याय, दर्द, पीड़ा और बेदखली और उनके मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन के दौरान हुए अपमान की भरपाई नहीं कर सकती है। हालांकि यह सब उनके टूटे हुए घरों के मलबे के नीचे नहीं दबा रह जाना चाहिए।
यह ब्लॉग खोरी गांव की कहानी को दुनिया के साथ साझा करने का हमारा प्रयास है ताकि जागरूकता बढ़ाने और वन संरक्षण के नाम पर कमजोर लोगों की जबरन बेदखली को रोका जा सके। यह मंच इस उम्मीद के साथ सूचना प्रसारित करने के लिए एक माध्यम के रूप में भी कार्य करता है कि इसी तरह के अन्याय से गुजर रहे अन्य समुदाय, खोरी गांव के संघर्ष से कुछ सीख सके।
